i am gettin' tired of people rippin' on Diaz. i don't always agree with his position, but i have come to accept his work as editorial pieces and not just a bland fact sheet. the articles all clearly say who wrote them so if you don't like it then don't come in. heck, at least don't whine after you do.

and it says something about him caring about his readership when he does make edits after he posts. the guy has cojones. (sp)

@Nick: hahaha, he doesn't care about his readership, buddy. well, not in a good way, anyway. he cares about those who agree with him.

and the problem with the editorial is there wasn't an accompanying obit. his "editorial" served as the obit.

and if you're tired of people ripping on diaz, don't read those comments since that's about as easy to do as to ignore his blatantly outrageous articles. i try to avoid his articles as much as possible, but come on.

@Nick: haha, I almost thought you were being serious. Then I realized that nobody could possibly believe that, and laughed when I got the joke (sorry I am a little slow).

The fact is that Jesus writes for an audience of 2 - himself and his hero. He doesn't appear to care if it's honest, accurate or even fair as long as it reinforces his view to his followers. It's like Fox News, but for unabashed fanboys. The only difference is that you can point out the errors on the news without fear of banhammer repercussions from an overbloated ego.

Editing a post only to add completely irrelevant and self-promoting content/links isn't cajones, it's arrogance.

Gawker has an awesome comment system. The only problem is that it leaves the potential for abuse by staff members, and unfortunately it seems to occur with at least one individual.

But, since it's obvious you were joking, you probably know all this already. Well played.

@Nick:
When the man writes an article about someone who's died and then puts someone else's name in the title he deserves ripping. Hell he even replaced the front page image of the guy with Steve Jobs. If you don't think that's disrespectful and deserving of criticism then frankly you're an idiot.

Also all editors make edits after their posts, to correct facts, update the story or fix a typo. It doesn't take cajones, it's just his job so I don't see why he deserves praise for that specifically.

@Nick: Regardless of Diaz post content it's his handling of commentor's that gets him ripped.

In his case he should just ignore the comments because he is unable to read the objectively unlike the other Giz editors.

People still read his posts. And have different opinions of them. It's a free country and I think that should be respected by not only the commentors but the editors as well.

I miss you guys. I remember the days when I could sit around here for hours. Relish your time being able to loaf around on the interwebs. Those days will vanish soon enough my friends. As I sit here in the last few minutes of my lunch quarter hour, I find myself nostalgic for the last few months.

On another tangentially related note, I have decided that today will be called #ComplimentNorwoodDay.

All you #whitenoisers come in here and say nice obsequious things about me. I may not be around as much, but I'll be damned if I'm going to let you hooligans slack off in the one activity you all do that contributes something meaningful to society.

Oh, and do you remember the time that you claimed you had a wife? And I said that's impossible, because no woman could ever stand to date much less marry such a disgusting, slime-filled, hideously deformed, unkempt, unhygienic, malcontent, grumpy, cowardly, pissant of a man? And then I said that the only lover you'd ever have only has five fingers but at least she'll literally never leave you? Oh, those were good times, Norwood. I will never forget those carefree days.

Here's hoping we'll still get to see you around here or in the chat, you magnificent dickhead.

Alright I have to make some kind of comment on this, I've been holding it in for far too long. How many people take offense to Jesus' tone in 90% of his articles? I feel it callous, arrogant and insulting to the opposition and more interested in getting attention than showing any regard for the topic he is supposed to be posting on. I know I am not the only one but I just can't wrap my head around the fact that he is allowed to continue to write articles of such dubious quality when there are other editors on this site who do a much better job. I would love to see how the other writers on this blog feel about him but I do realize that professionalism does exist and that public call outs are usually rather rude but I would love to know others opinions on the guy.

I remember after the Windows 7 Beta came out there was an article that he wrote that was a rambling mess titled "Fuck Windows 7" which was taken down within an hour. If that doesn't say something about the guy I don't know what does. Yes this is a blog, yes there are plenty of opinion pieces but when you show such blatant fanboyism and refuse the give the other side any time of day versus the devil's advocate approach that many of the other writers on this site show it gets tiresome.

Now I am not trying to attack the guy, he isn't a terrible writer. In fact when he works on them and makes longer, more thoughtout posts he writes some damn good ones but anything that is a shorter 'reporting' kind of post are usually inflammatory and usually includes allusions to things that in no way relate to the topic at hand. Too many times do we see attention getting titles like "Steve Jobs is Very Sad Today" when the article is about some one elses death that just happens to be tied to Steve Jobs. It seems as if his only intention is to get people to click and then comment their disgust at his tactics just to inflate his numbers. This one really bothered me because the way the article is written shows such disrespect for Mr. York and his family that it completely betrays it's purpose.

I'm sorry if this seems a bit ranting but I know I'd only be fueling the fire to post something like this in one of his posts. I don't want to attack him out in the open but I really do feel as if I need to get it off my chest how much he bothers me as of late.

and i cannot believe he would change the lead pic in that article to one of steve jobs. i don't know what is going on in that man's head. completely disrespectful. and it sucks even further because his actions have caused the comments to follow suit, mine included. just unbelievable. i really hope york's family never reads that article.

@Maori_Yelir:It's his party I guess. If he wants to write that way to get the page views, he's welcome to do so.

Many media folks choose the path Diaz is taking. Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity, Glenn Beck, Ariana Huffington, The entire editorial staff of the NY times with the exception of Friedman and periodically Brooks, the list goes on and on.

I think Diaz is either a very straightforward blogger who will write whatever he has to write to get pageviews, or he is a very ... passionate... person with little control over his emotions.

@NorwoodIsMyHero: But here's the question. How many places want to be associated with the most of the people you listed? I know I sure as hell wouldn't. This site does a pretty fair job of being just professional enough to get away with the off-color comments most of the writers make because you know if most cases it's done tongue in cheek. Nothing Jesus does is done in such a way. It's mean spirited, inflammatory and sensationalist. I think your comparison to Glenn Beck is spot on and I don't think the man should be in anyway proud of that.

@Maori_Yelir: Pretty much. Thank you for having the balls to speak plainly about it. Jesus has an appreciable writing skill when he wants to, but his bias, inability to see both sides of an argument, and complete fear of constructive criticism is plain as day.

For example, his "The Desktop will be irrelevant in 3 years" piece. Not only did the vast majority of commenters disagree, but even those at Lifehacker had contemplated the issue and given several important reasons to the contrary some months before.

I imagine sooner or later he will purge Whitenoise of all those who speak ill of him. That's a shame, because I don't come to Gizmodo for tech news. I don't come to Gizmodo for hard-hitting issues. I come to gizmodo because it has the finest commenter community I have ever come across, and Jesus simply turns people off coming here.
